For suspected promotion of feudal superstition, registration of a new trademark of Blizzard Entertainment based in USA has been rejected
Friday, Apr. 24, 2009
The famous US game company Blizzard Entertainment Inc. filed an application for registering the new works of 《STARTCRAFT》——the English name《STARCRAFT: GHOST》as a trademark on the E-Sports service before State Administration for Industry & Commerce of the People's Republic of China, but was refused for registration. The Trademark Review & Adjudication Board under State Administration for Industry & Commerce supported the refusal decision in the later review procedure on the reason that "STARCRAFT: GHOST" can easily bring some harmful effects, which are the feudal superstitions violating moral modes of socialism. Blizzard Entertainment Inc. appeals before Beijing No. 1 Intermediate People's Court against the result and further requests the court to withdraw the review decision made by the TRAB. Recently, it has been learned that the request for litigation filed by Blizzard Entertainment was not supported by the court. As reported, Blizzard Entertainment has filed another appeal for this case.
