Beijing Winter Olympics Trademark Protection Is Praised

Recently, the Legal Affairs Department of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee (hereinafter referred to as Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee) sent a letter to the Trademark Office of the China National Intellectual Property Administration (hereinafter referred to as the Trademark Office) to support and assist the Trademark Office to do a good job in the winter. Thank them for checking and registering special emblems, mascots and other special emblems for the Olympic Games.

 

In order to cooperate with the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee for the protection of intellectual property rights, the Trademark Office has set up a special work class to arrange for review experts and key personnel to conduct prior searches for relevant signs. Recently, the search for torch candidate work of Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics have been completed. Since 2014, the Trademark Office has searched and registered more than 130 applications related to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics logos submitted by the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee. In 2017, the five examination offices of the Trademark Office completed five sets of 10 Winter Olympic candidate emblems and three additional candidate emblems for the previous pattern search of more than 5.3 million pieces in just 18 days, and retrieved more than 1,200 previous similar patterns. In 2019, the Trademark Office Department One and Five jointly set up a working group to search the mascots for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympics in advance, contributed to the selection of the mascots "Bingdun Dun" and "Xuerongrong" on schedule.

 

It is understood that on December 15, 2017, the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee released the Winter Olympics emblem "Dong Meng" and the Winter Paralympics emblem "Fei Yue". Prior to this, the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee has initiated trademark registration applications covering all 45 categories of goods and services in China. On July 31, 2018, the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee submitted the first batch of Olympic and Paralympic logo announcement applications to the Trademark Office, including 14 Olympic logos and four Paralympic logos, covering the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Exclusive signs and names such as the emblem and Chinese and English names of the Paralympic Winter Games. On September 17, 2019, the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics mascot "Bingdundun" and the Winter Paralympic mascot "Xuerongrong" release ceremony was held in Beijing. The day before, Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee submitted to the Trademark Office 270 trademark registration applications including the image of the mascot of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and the Paralympic Winter Games and related Chinese and English names have been filed.

 

It is reported that China has achieved all-round and three-dimensional protection of the patents, trademarks, copyrights and related Olympic symbols of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games emblems, and has been approved by the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee.
